This painting is an example of Raymond Parker's signature style: outsized square canvases filled with large, colourful shapes on a neutral ground. Parker was a fan of jazz music, and this influenced his artistic practice — throughout the period this work was painted, his compositions developed a unique geometry of rough, almost organic forms that float together in playful harmony. This work was used on the invitation to his 1966 show at the Kootz Gallery on Madison Avenue in New York City.
