Lulu Ladrón de Guevara Mexican-Canadian, b. 1959

Lulu Ladrón de Guevara is a South American sculptor and maker whose work continues the possibilities of abstraction through a concentrated language of colour and form. Drawing from the legacies of postwar Colour Field painting and the geometric traditions that developed throughout Latin America, Ladrón de Guevara approaches her practice as a site of balance and rhythm. The objects are built from simple geometric structures and carefully considered arrangements of colour. Rectangles, bands, and fields of pigment are modulated by layered sheets of mylar paper. Ladrón de Guevara has exhibited at the Bienal de Pintura Rufino Tamayo at the Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo in Mexico City, the Museo de Arte Moderno in México City, and public installations for Toronto's Nuit Blanche.
