Biography
Ed Baynard (1940–2016) was an American painter known for his stylized still-life compositions of flowers and plants. Raised in Washington, D.C., he lived in Paris and London during the 1960s, working as a graphic designer for The Beatles and designing stage clothing for Jimi Hendrix. Self-taught, Baynard returned to New York City in 1971 with encouragement from Agnes Martin, beginning a career distinguished by flattened forms and vivid color. His work is held in major institutional collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
