Opie's Old Street Walker portfolio transforms ordinary pedestrians into endlessly moving figures of the urban environment. Drawn from observations of daily life around London's Old Street district, the works in this portfolio operate on his longstanding aesthetic principles of reduction and focus on form. Though anonymous, each walker retains distinct character through posture, clothing, and gait. Old Street Walkers investigates Opie's exploration of the urban space. His walking figures, poised in mid-stride, suggest motion without destination. They inhabit a familiar space—sidewalks, crossings, station platforms—not through detailed environments, but through posture and pace.
