“Truth in Art, if there is such a thing, can only be approached through spontaneity
and creativity.” -Serge Brunoni
Brunoni was born in France in 1938 and immigrated to Quebec in the early 1960s. He began his artistic practice in the early 1970s. Brunoni’s work captures the essence of both urban and rural life in the province, including bustling street scenes and natural landscapes. In all of his works, nature and the elements provide a lush environment in which his characters exist. There is always a notable harmony between human, animal, and nature. Brunoni focuses on simplicity in his technique and is very inspired by the works of Stanley Cosgrove and Henri Matisse — gestural, colourful, and balanced. He pushes the use of line and colour within his work to explore all possibilities.
