For more than six decades, Ada Katz has been Alex’s primary subject and enduring muse. Rather than creating traditional portraits, Katz uses the ‘split’ compositions to create interruptions and quicken the act of looking to an instantaneous frame. Making the viewer more aware of the pictorial space and depth within the picture plane, Katz’s split works reflect his interest in cinema, billboard advertisements, and the very pop art movements that he predated in his early work.
