Ross Bleckner American, b. 1949

Ross Bleckner is an American multimedia artist from New York City. As his style developed in the 1960s and 1970s, Bleckner was influenced by Op Art, formalism, and, later, the AIDS crisis in the 1980s and 90s. He studied at New York University, where he completed a BFA in 1971, and the California Institute of the Arts, where he completed his M.F.A in 1973.

Bleckner studied and worked alongside a number of successful peers, including Julian Schnabel, Chuck Close, and Sol LeWitt. Although many of his works are formally simple, they often carry rich symbolic meanings that invite the visitor to reflect on life, death, and memory.
