Braque frequently incorporated birds into his work "from 1949 onwards... [and] amongst objects in
the still-lifes from the so-called 'Atelier' cycle, in which Braque pictured objects from his painting studio... He grew increasingly fascinated by birds' movement, birds'
flight – and their wing spread... bird silhouettes take up
a large space and are contrasted with the monochrome colour panels" (Orozco, The Orozco Collection Vol. 4: Georges Braque, 19).
