During this period, Dzubas maintained a close relationship with fellow artist Helen Frankenthaler, with whom he shared a studio in the early 1950s. Frankenthaler’s groundbreaking soak-stain technique, which emphasized the fluid interaction of pigment and canvas, influenced Dzubas’s own engagement with color and surface. Together, their shared explorations of abstraction contributed to a broader dialogue within the New York School, where the boundaries between form and emotion were continually redefined.
